And it’s not just a matter of preference. There are some tangible benefits to be both Eucalyptus and Bamboo sheets, including the fact both are more sustainable than cotton. Eucalyptus and Bamboo sheets are also noticeably soft and breathable as a result of their natural fiber properties.

But between Eucalyptus and Bamboo, which is better? Converting bamboo down into fibers which can be woven into sheets, is frequently a chemically driven process. It is potentially harmful to the workers, and the runoff from the process can be environmentally detrimental. As seen in our comparison, Eucalyptus sheets are also a more reasonable price. Does Thread Count Matter?

Like most anything in life, the answer is: “It depends.” Generally speaking, the higher the thread count your sheets have, the softer they are, and the better they wear with time. Since the thread count refers to the number of vertical and horizontal threads per square inch, sheets with higher thread counts have finer threads that are more tightly woven. Low thread counts might feel coarse if they are woven with thicker yarn.

Some companies artificially play up their thread counts, weaving their sheets with tricks of the trade*, but at some point, any increase in the thread count offers a negligible difference to the consumer. And other factors impact your sheets’ softness anyway. Sheets come in different weave patterns and are finished in various ways too.

Indeed, the material matters as well. Even among cotton sheets, certain types of cotton are considered softer than other types. Have you ever heard of Egyptian cotton? Eucalyptus and Bamboo sheets are both known to be supremely soft, which needs to be considered in conjunction with the thread count.

So does thread count matter? Yes. The ideal thread count is probably somewhere between 300 and 500. Sheets in this thread count will be noticeably softer than sheets with lower thread counts; however, if you start to see claims of sheets with 1,000+ thread counts having other-worldly softness, be skeptical.
